One cannot watch this series unless s/he is prepared to switch off their brain. No amount of rational thinking can make sense of at least forty important occurences/dialogues (not a random number, I can name them one-by-one) even within the confines of its own world (ie magic exists, those characters are who they are). There are also a lot of useless and unentertaining dialogues and lots of scenes that could be omitted without detracting anything at all from the story. But my main gripe is this "game" between Beatrice and Battler. We all know that in this world magic exists and we all know that Beatrice is a witch, yet Battler, eventhough he has witnessed a lot of magic events first-hand, is playing a game to prove that magic does not exist based on logic??? That's the equivalent of someone dropping tomatoes on the ground from a certain height and then saying he will prove with logic that gravity does not exist. And we are forced to watch him invent possible replies which we *know* are not true, and we are supposed to take his side against Beatrice who is saying the painstakingly obvious truth, and the game continues even after the numerous times when he is unable to find any logical answer (instead of having stopped after the first time that happened... or the twentieth). All in all, an extremely bad series for anyone who cares about an anime's story/scenario.

I watched this series and now my brain am hurt. That said, it was a very enjoyable ride.
I'm going to have to get my hands on the sound novels somehow, since the story is obviously not finished with just this TV series.
Edit: turns out the game is actually sold where I live! Guess I'll be buying it as soon as I'm not up to my ears in student loans.

It may sound stupid if I ask this, but is there a difference between the DmonHiro sub and the Exiled-Destiny sub of this? The Exiled one says it was aired 2006, Dmon says 2009? I haven't watched it before, but I really want to, and I was just wondering if there was any variation in the story/animation etc. between the two dubs?? Thank you

I have seen about 260 anime series and I have never seen such a bad/wrong/f*cked/nonsense/pointless/wtf anime.... First 4 episodes and half of 5 episode were very promising and I was rly curious what is going on and how it will end...and I rated it 4,5/5 however... after "TEA PARTY" I have to say..... WHAT THE F*CK IS THIS SH*T!? It's completly nonsense... and main char is totaly ???stupid/blind??? He is trying to prove that witch doesn't exist WHEN she killed everyone (she revived them or what?) and then again she killed them 2nd time while he was watching at them... and he still doesn't believe? What's the point of the anime like this? I would rather watch 20x training with Hinako followed by 10 hours of studying math (and I realy hate math lol) than this... Can someone who watched this tell me WHAT'S THE POINT OF THIS ANIME?

I was curious to find out what the deal is about this anime however after reading the comments from at least a couple of level headed members I think I'll just pass and try some other anime. I've read that one member suggested one must play the game to even make sense of all of this. WTF... watch 26 episodes + play the game is TOO MUCH for one person to get the punchline and be entertained.NO THANKS.

Not sure why i've waited so long to start downloading this, it'll be nice to watch this series again without those annoying pixels blocking the gore.
Thanks for keeping this Torrent alive.

Can someone who watched this tell me WHAT'S THE POINT OF THIS ANIME?This first season is based on the first 4 "Question arc's" of the sound novel, so, of course THERE ARE GOING TO BE QUESTIONS. And I wasn't showing anger with those fully capitalized word's, I was emphasizing my statement.
I can't tell you what's going to happen because I havn't read the second 4 arc's yet but the second 4 arc's are the answer arc's. It's supposed to answer all of your question's. If you've seen Higurashi, then you should be prepared to expect the unexspected from this story.
I think most people are getting frustrated by the first season because it only poses a endless loop of question's. Well my only suggestion's for you all is that you either download/buy the sound novel's(Both the first one and Chiru are translated) or you wait for the second season which, if it comes out, will be the answer arc season that explain's the question's you have. Or you can read the manga's which have alot of the arc's almost translated.
And as for the magic, think like this- it's showing us how the death's "could" have occured with magic right? Well what Battler is trying to do is explain the murder's as if a human did them. It seemed to me other than the tea party, inside of the story, the magic event's that were shown were all "what if's". "What if they died by a "magic" stake to the head?", "what if they were burned by magic", "What if magic was used to kill them in a closed off room . etc. etc. It's like we're reading about Battler watching a murder mystery about himself where all of the murder's are replaced with a magic event occuring to kill the people, and then Battler has to replace the magic event with a way a human could have killed the people...........if that make's any sense.
I don't feel like thinking anymore right now but oddly enough, these comment's make me want to reread the first sound novel.
And lucky me, I have the ps3 voices and picture patches. Peace. Hope you all give the sound novel's a try. nikromants

Like Higurashi
from start i didn't got the point, it was total wtf, i simply knew who was murderer, but when they got revived or let's say...new Hinamizawa (in other dimension or something) the story is from new with different events, and later they will understand what they did (like Deja Vu) and start to believe in them and then fixing things, only one girl stays put in each Hinamizawa, that's why we see them each time from new after massacre, cause she is somehow the main story person in some way, here is the same principle how it works, i just finished 6th episode, and i started to understood after 5th at the end when the same girl who played side-main-role in Higurashi, the Beatrice has the power to revive and all other stuff, so she just made a new something to a new place or another dimension, in other words...something like Higurashi, only she can do it as she wishes, she does not need to get killed and start again cause she is the one controlling, but right now, i can't understand right in that 5th episode, why they didn't wondered that they were alive and knew that they were killed ? Why they didn't wondered that they are alive and yet, they peacefully talked "you were ugly when you were killed, oh and your head was squashed ? right ? that was ugly" and the Battler simply continued to figure all things and still didn't believed witches, so how come they were revived and yet they peacefully talked about their deaths and they weren't curious why they are alive ? it's just wtf, the first thing what i would ask is "WHY THE F*CK YOU GUYS ARE ALIVE !!! YOU WERE DEAD !!" not like Battler - "hmm...so who did it ? ...hmmm...i still don't believe witches... hmm..."

Imo Higurashi's question arcs were much better. Alternate universes are much more acceptable than the whole game resetting thing. (After Tatarigoroshi-hen it wasn't hard to understand)
But unlike Higurashi, I haven't read the Umineko VNs. I recently discovered a sprite patch for Umineko so I think I'll actually read it sometime. (The only reason why I haven't read it was because of those sprites...) I know this anime had potential but it was a bit too much for someone who is unfamiliar with the story. Maybe after I read this I will be able to appreciate it a bit more.
I would like to thank GreatInferno, for their post. If anyone else was left wanting to know the answers to Umineko, I also suggest reading the VN. If you have time to sit and watch anime, you can read a hour a day.
A quick heads up for those speed readers, the patch for chiru is not complete yet.
