Is this a TV-rip? It doesn't say in the information but since it doesn't say "uncensored" anywhere either I assume it iszzzzzz... OVA is only in DVD

Geez! would someone tell Chihiro that their aspect ratio is messed up.
It doesn't come out to 16:9 even though they say it is.
16/9 = 1.777
720/480 = 1.5
If they really wanted to keep it 16x9, they shoulda done the resolution at 852 x 480.
Instead, we have "long face" syndrome =P

Yeah, but not all players may do this. I use Zoomplayer(v5.something) which is a pretty nice player. I've poked around for a setting adjustment and think I found something, so I'll have to give it a try, but it's not a "DAR" type of setting, instead, it's restricting AR adjustment to "height"... not sure if it'll work as intended without screwing other things up, so we shall see.
What's the reason for the 720x480 resolution anyhow? Wasn't the original source correct 16x9 resolution?

What's interesting is they say they squeeze the video to fit a 4:3 aspect, but 4:3 = 1.33. However, I think this 1.5 is in between both since 16/9 = 1.7 & 4/3 = 1.3, so 1.3+1.7 = 3 / 2 = 1.5
Essentially means that they're skimping on resolution if they're squeezing to fit a smaller width >.<
I understand what it means now, but I'd still prefer my vids to be resolution aspect proper even if it means scaling width-wise & larger file size =P

Many thanks to Duki3003 for that link. I Googled for info about anamorphic a long time ago, trying to figure out what the 'anamorphic' setting in m DVD player was talking about, but wound up with a different Wikipedia article that didn't help at all.
The page pointed to by Duki3003 actually made sense.
