Are your transcoded files from LonE's releases better than Nipponsei's?

No. This is V0 (220-260kbps). Nipponsei as well as Kristen's are 320 CBR so both are closer to the source. I do not know whether those extra bitrate gives any improvement on the quality. To me, even a V2 transcode is transparent.

If there's a knock against this offer, it's initial availability.

----
According to the LAME authors, V0 = same quality as 320CBR, but takes less space.  It takes
a full 320. "allowed by law", when it needs it, otherwise, it uses less.  So only ignoramuses use 320.

Other issues to beware of are of overload to the encoder -- if you encode with 'replay-gain-accurate'  it will tell you not only the accurate replay gain value, but also whether or not it clips and should be re-encoded.  I got this error a few times in re-ripping my CD collection last year, and didn't know the full extent of what it meant -- thought I can't hear the difference, some can.

If they don't rip with accurate detect on and don't catch errors, they might have a less than "perfect" MP3 recording.  Of course you can always take the wimpy way out and go with LAME and have no fears of loss, but then unfortunately, you are limited in the number of devices you will play on...*sigh*.

One other issue -- I 've thought about transcoding my VBR0 down to about VBR4-5 (~128Kbps) so I can fit the entire collection on a 4GB chip for my cell phone -- no way I'll be able to tell the difference between V0/320 and 128 on a cell phone music player...& speaker system...
:-)

The tags are such a pain too -- since the only way to get good tags with Japanese is to use UTF-8 which lame doesn't support!  You have to reencode the tags using some other utility (there are linux utils that can do it automatically, but I haven't gotten them setup, so I usually go in with a Windows Tag&Rename) ...not bad for occasional use but would be brutal for a batch re-encode.

Oh, I forgot -- doesn't there have to be some seeders on this beast before it gets started?

Hey double hey!,  um, there's already a LAME of these no?

Aren't they the same files?

It shouldn't be difficult to convert to high quality MP3 from the LAME's if that's your druthers.

If you want I could toss them up in a few days to a week or so -- would want to finish my
script that does them -- was in the middle of converting Kannazuki no Miko, when I got uppity and decided I wanted my script to do the conversion in parallel (against multiple songs) -- and detect the clipping error message I was talking about and auto -rerun the job with different settings if there was a problem.  Was a bit ambitious...but doable...would be a good excuse to get back to that.

No, they were encoded by different people, with different quality settings.  Daiz also added appropriate ID3 tags and embedded cover art, I believe.

I'm not quite sure what you're saying here, unless you meant to say LonE instead of LAME?

These files were generated from LonE's lossless files.

I didn't actually embed cover art into the files, I just added cover.jpg-files to the track folders, as can be seen from the filelist.

This is stupid. You're transcoding from a lossy source to a lossy output. It would be better if you transcode from a lossless source to VBR4 or 5. You'll get a similarly sized but better quality files.

OST 2 hasn't hit the internet yet (read: there's no LonE release of it), thus it's not in this torrent either.

Some of the MP3 tags/titles seem cut off ("LEVEL5 -judgelight- (instrumen" or "Toaru Kagaku no Railgun OP2 Si").  This makes distinguishing the different versions of "Dear My Friend" a bit difficult.  Any word on ARCHIVES 3?  Thanks, and good job on this!

Shouldn't this be updated with the new files from Nipponsei?

Thanks for the heads-up, will update this tomorrow. Also, none of these MP3s come from Nipponsei.

Well I just looked at Nipponsei and saw the mp3 files which are updated in the flac pack here at BT. So I thought maybe Underwater encoded them aswell. Cuz I want these <3 But I'm too lazy to download each album seperately on Nipponsei lol.

Shouldn't this be updated and made complete? You know, since the FLAC ver is complete... :-)
