this reminded me more of azumanga daioh than hidemari sketch or lucky star -- there's even a tomo-chan ripoff with almost the same name.

good stuff.

It seems like, if you're making statements like that, your definition of 'Seinen' is completely incorrect.

Whoever loves "Slice of Life" stuff, mixed with interest in (practical) art, will be in good hands with "G.A. Geijutsuka Art Design Class".
The humor is similar to Doki Doki School Hours and Azumanga Daioh, althought it doesn't try to force you a smile on your face after every scene (comedy shows with "fake applause" comes to mind). After the ending, it leaves you in high spirit and in hope for a second season (what happens in the least case, sadly).

Good thing they announced an OVA, well not officially yet, but at least a shop has categorized it. ^^

Bad examples or the opposite of this genre are (in my opinion) shows like "Minami-ke" or "Hidamari Sketch x365" that aims more for the "lascivious" folk ; ) , and have no really deeper meaning (art-wise).

(A late edit (2012): "Hidamari Sketch x Hoshimittsu" on the other hand was very enjoyable to watch. Be sure to check the franchise out, if you had fun with GA.)

Thanks for linking to that site with the GA OVA placeholder, Scha. After checking it out, I noticed the GA OST was currently available there.  :-O So, I looked around and found that rips were released a few days ago. That being said, I just uploaded the MP3 and lossless FLAC versions.

Yeah, I didn't really care that much for Minami-ke or Hidamari Sketch. I tried to like them, I even sat through the whole first season of Minami-ke. I just ended up being bored by those shows. They were amusing, but they weren't really all that funny. I've yet to meet a "die-hard" fan of either of those shows.

Um... I'd like to know what universe you're living in if you've never met die-hard fans of either Minami-ke or Hidamari Sketch...  There are quite a few of us out here ^_^

I, for one, absolutely adore both the manga and the anime for Hidamari Sketch.  I love the manga for Minami-ke and love the first anime season, couldn't stand Okawari (meh, it was a doujin anime anyway - kinda in the same way that "There is no Tsukihime anime"), and think that Okaeri is okay.

Now you've met one...

Sigh, desu~

P.S.  In before all sorts of links to Tsukihime Lunar Legend Anime..........................................

Haha, I had a feeling a Minami-ke/Hidamari fan would post a reply to my last comment. I'll say this, neither anime was bad. I enjoyed watching them to a certain extent, but ultimately, they just didn't do it for me for whatever reason. I just lost interest.

Thought about uploading the CDs myself, althought it's only worth to archieve for the various Character Ending Songs. Glad you did it instead.
The O.S.T. itself is a bit "unspecial"...

I also watched Hidamari Sketch and Miniami-ke, cause I love the genre in general. but as Sashamaru stated, it's like they miss something, or they give an impression that might displease "us" (or something in that direction). ^^;

The first season of Hidamari Sketch was fun and the first art releated anime I saw, with a unique style (collage elements for example).
Hidamari Sketch x365 started really flashy, and the style improved too, but after 6 months I'm still at episode 10. Basically all I can remember is the (slightly) improved fanservice, and the conversations (and many scenes) about food. lol
The time with Minami-ke was shorter (watched it quite continuously) but after the last episode, for some reason, I was glad to leave it behind.

Well anyway, you can't be fond of everything, that's the reason you should enjoy the stuff you like thrice as much. ^^

more education and explanation than fun or story (btw is there any?)
there are better series in this genre imo, in example Honey&Clover or Hidamari sketch

Not sure what you mean by "education and explanation", but if you're looking for a particularly driving plot/storyline, you're always going to be hard-pressed to find one in a slice-of-life/daily-life series. That's just the nature of the genre, to be rather.. shallow.

Also, I can see you comparing this to Hidamari Sketch, but Honey & Clover? That's like comparing Kimi ni Todoke with Lucky Star. There's nothing to compare. I think you're confusing "genre" with "theme" or "setting".

That being said, Honey & Clover was a great animu. What makes it good and what makes GA good are very different is all I'm saying.

Oh, sweet! I didn't even know ToyBox was working on a GA DVD release. Looks like he used Ayako's script, too.

I'll see about offering it to replace this torrent.
