Definetly the anime, or even better the manga. Usually movies (and anime series) tend to leave lots of details or in some cases changes the story a little bit due to film duration restrictions or budget. Just compare the Harry Potter movies vs the books, lots of great details were changed or deleted. :'-(

ok so i haven't seen the movie but i've read most of the manga series, and having just watched the first Death Note Movie must say that it is Now one of my all time favorite movies. so cool.

I like the way L was portrayed in this movie. They manged to replicated most of his little quirks.
