BakaBT joins the internet strike!

Posted by Duki3003 at 21:16 pm on January 17th 2012

On January 18th BakaBT will join the strike against internet censorship. Our services as well as the tracker will be unavailable from 8AM-8PM EST. Only our forum will remain open to allow discussion for all interested - topic.

On Jan 24th, Congress will vote to pass internet censorship in the Senate, even though the vast majority of Americans are opposed. We need to kill the bill - PIPA in the Senate and SOPA in the House - to protect our rights to free speech, privacy, and prosperity. We need internet companies to follow Reddit's lead and stand up for the web, as we internet users are doing every day.

Take action:

Update: SOPA and PIPA have both been shelved indefinitely! See here for more details!

Thanks for participating again!!

Posted by Southrop at 0:39 am on January 15th 2012

Once again, the BakaBT mahjong tournament finally draws to a close! Thanks to the many people who participated in the tournament this year. Unfortunately, the tournament wasn't as big or exciting as last year, but I think we still got to see quite a lot of fun matches this year! It's a bit of a shame that the matches dragged on for a bit and we had to play the final after the Winter Holidays though.

Many congratulations to fenet for taking first place in the competition this year, defeating last year's champion, vuzedome, in the final match!

Prizes should have been awarded already.

Enjoy the following freeleech mahjong-related titles for now: Saki, Akagi, Tetsuya, Ten - Tenna Toori no Kaidanji, and the the OVA and manga for Mudazumo Naki Kaikaku. I'll be disabling freeleech for those titles in about a day from now, so grab them while you can!

Hi10P and 8-bit encodes

Posted by Duki3003 at 23:51 pm on December 21st 2011

With the BakaBT motto in mind of accepting only the highest quality releases, the time has come to decide on downsizing the number of releases we take.
As you may know at the moment we are keeping inferior 8-bit releases alongside newly accepted Hi10P (10-bit) for compatibility reasons, however software support has caught up and they are now supported by most popular codec bundles (CCCP, K-Lite and others), as well as LAV Filters, CoreAVC (although still slightly buggy) for video acceleration and standalone players such as VLC beta and mplayer2.

As far as hardware goes most configurations nowadays should still be capable of processing and playing Hi10P.
Now, of course, something encoded in Hi10P does not make it somehow magically better, so as before 10-bit is still going to be compared with 8-bit and the better release will be accepted.

But before following through with this we would like to get the public opinion on this matter, considering you are still the ones who will download those releases.

Holiday Banners Competition '12

Posted by Duki3003 at 17:53 pm on December 1st 2011

Following what seems to have become our tradition, here's the competition of 2012~
Same as before, submit your banners with a New Year/Winter motif here...

Requirements

  ● Submit in .png (lossless) format
  ● Width 980px
  ● Height 120px
  ● Matches site!
  ● Use the Joyful Juliana font.
  ● Keep at least 100px clear on the left and 200px clear on the right (Search box and RSS feed button).
  ● If the composition allows it put the image to the left and the text to the right.
  ● Tell us which anime it's from and the character(s) name.
  ● Provide link to your (tracker) profile so we can give you proper credit.

Like before, you'll have more freedom if you wish to experiment, however try to keep the banners consistent. That goes for the font and the background colour scheme.
New Year motif banners will be kept in rotation until the end of January, 2012 - so feel free to alter your banner slightly and re-submit it in the regular banner submission thread if you want to keep it in permanent rotation.

Best banners will be awarded - 1600 Bonus points for every banner we choose (No limits to number of submissions).
Submissions will be accepted starting today and until 23. December.
Happy Holidays, and have fun~
